Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, is one of Africa’s biggest music exports. Born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria, Wizkid started singing at age 11 under the stage name Lil Prinz. His big break came in 2010 with the release of “Holla at Your Boy”, under Banky W’s EME Records.
Achievements
Wizkid’s rise has been nothing short of phenomenal. He became the first Nigerian artist to sell out the O2 Arena in London (three times) and was part of Drake’s global hit “One Dance”, which topped charts worldwide. In 2021, his song “Essence” featuring Tems became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Wizkid has won multiple awards, including a Grammy (for his contribution to Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl”), BET Awards, MOBO Awards, and many others.
